Frederick Bailes 1889-1970 MSS#: Processed by: NC Forshaw 10/5/94 Volume: Provenance The Frederick Bailes collection was part of the transfer between Unity
School of Christianity and INTA Archives. Some of the bulletins and
flyers were part of the acquisition between Unity Church of Dallas (Curtis
collection) and INTA Archives. Copyright Related Collections Biographical Note Dr. Frederick Bailes was born (1889) into a family of New Zealand pioneers,
and as a youth decided on a lifetime career as a medical missionary.
After preparatory work, he went to England for a special course at the
London Missionary School of Medicine, but discovered that he suffered
from diabetes. At this time he was introduced to the Creative Law, a
philosophy, which he says, enabled him to become completely healed of
diabetes. He was a graduate of Beloit College and Moody Bible Institute, and
did postgraduate work at the University of Southern California. Cured
of diabetes, he participated in sports and was captain of the Beloit
College soccer football team. For almost fifty years, he gave public lectures and taught classes
on the fundamental Laws underlying health and prosperity. He taught
special classes for various groups, including realty boards, executive
clubs, and sales organizations. He was an intensive student of Troward
and Emerson. In 1939 he founded the Science of Mind Church in California, which
became an affiliate of Ernest Holmes’ Church of Religious Science of
Los Angeles. For several years Dr. Bailes was Assistant Dean and Director
of Field Activities, and he and Dr. Holmes conducted the two Sunday
morning services in Los Angeles. Dr. Bailes later returned to the independent
Science of Mind Church, which he had founded. He held lectures in the
Fox-Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. He retired in 1950,
and died in 1970. He is listed in The Author’s and Writer’s Who’s Who (London) and in
Who’s Who in California. Scope and Content Note This collection consists of lectures, pamphlets, and books by Frederick
Bailes. Pictures of Bailes, used by Unity Church of Dallas when Bailes
was a guest speaker, have been transferred to the photograph collection.
